Kutxh is a collection of naturally-dyed, hand-woven structures made with modified basketry techniques. The use of a vibrant color palette may serve as a non-exploitative reminder to viewers of the existence and appropriation of Black and Brown cultures within our own cultural practices. The art that I create may be traditionally categorized as “folk art” and/or “craft”, but I ask the viewer to consider it more deeply, directing attention to the complicated nature of our histories, the erasure inherent in such histories, and the complicated implications of these categories.
